Apps in Paris
Since you nowadays can have absolutely everything in your phone why wouldn’t you have the things you need to know about Paris in there as well for you upcoming trip or move? Here’s a few apps that helped me survive (live a little bit easier) while in Paris that I wanted to share with you all. Hopefully they’ll be to just as much use for you as they have been for me.
RATP. With this app you can plan your trips and see if it’s easier to take the bus or metro to your destination, which times you can catch the bus and where you should go off. This helped me out a lot since the buses were a bit hard to understand in the beginning. Although you need to have 3G or WiFi to properly use this app.
Paris Metro. This is quite similar to the one above but I use this app to look at the metro and the bus maps. You don’t need 3G or WiFi to look at the maps which is really good and once you’ve gotten the hang of the metro/bus system you can read this without a problem.
Norstedts Lexikon. This is a lexicon, although this particular one is in Swedish. I recommend getting a French lexicon before leaving for Paris. Although most of the Parisians speak English it’s always good to have a “back-up system”. It’s good if you want to know what something in a menu means, a sign etc. etc.
Paris by Bike. If you plan to use the Vélib bicycles while in Paris, this app is a must have. You’ll need 3G or WiFi to use it if I remember correctly but this app will help you find the nearest Vélib station where you can either rent or return the bikes. A great option instead of having to go around looking for them yourself.
French Verbs. This was an absolute life saver for me when I was in Paris. This little app has more than 2100 French verbs and their conjugation. Which let me tell you, was aamazing (!) when trying to keep up in the French class. This app works without access to WiFi or 3G which is really helpful.
Paris Pastry. David Lebovitz has kindly gathered all his favourite pastries and sweets around Paris in one single app. With this app you can find the best chocolate shops, ice cream boutiques and the sweets that are currently closest to you at the moment. A great app to open up if you suddenly feel that need for something sweet!
