Today I’m sharing the last part of answers to all of your questions. This time it’s all about travel and then last but not least, Paris of course. Hope you’ve enjoyed this series and that I’ve answered most of your questions!
When will you be back in Paris?
I’ll be arriving in Paris at the end of October for fashion week with Nicole. After fashion week, life will be back to normal in Paris.
What cities/countries do you dream about going to?
I would love to visit Florence, California, Venice, Amsterdam, Japan, Barcelona, Portugal and Australia someday. I still haven’t been to any of these places and it’s driving me crazy! I would also love to go back to Rome, the French Riviera, Corsica and the northern part of Italy.
Which is the best part in Stockholm to live in?
If I was a tourist visiting Stockholm I would prefer to live somewhere around Nybrohamnen, Stureplan/Norrmalmstorg or Södra Blasieholmshamnen but they’re all very close together so it’s really all the same. My recommendations for a hotel would be: Nobis Hotel, Grand Hotel, Lydmar Hotel and Hotel Diplomat. If I planned to stay permanently I would stay in or near Vasastan or Norrmalm.
What do I miss the most from Sweden?
Except for family, friends and our little pug I think miss the candy and certain sweets the most. But I have plenty of that in Paris as well so I’m not complaining! And perhaps the super clean subway compared to Paris…
Why didn’t you bring your dog to Paris?
Simply because it’s not just my dog. Nixon is our family dog and since the rest of my family is back in Stockholm he’s staying put as well.
Which are your favourite places in New York?
I haven’t been since 2011 so I might not be completely up to date but places that I really liked during my last trip was Café Cluny (I still dream about their French toast for brunch), Shake Shack (burgers), The Dutch (lunch/dinner), The Smith (lunch/dinner), Àpizz (dinner), The Little Owl (dinner), Per Se (fancy dinner), The Chelsea Market, Baked by Melissa (cupcakes) and The Empire (hotel).
Which are your favourite places in Italy?
I love Rome (you can find my recommendations for Rome here), but I also love the northern part of Italy. Desenzano, a little town by lake Garda is just to die for as well as the beautiful Lake Como.
How long will you stay in Paris?
I have no idea how long I will stay in Paris. The simple answer would be: until I don’t want to stay anymore. Or until I find something new and exciting that I want to do.
Where should I stay while in Paris?
This is such a hard question since it depends on so many different things. If you’re visiting for a shorter amount of time as a tourist I would stay in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th arrondissement (but stay off the Champs-Élysées). Simply because these arrondissements are close to most things you might want to do and see while in Paris. Yes, many places in these areas are very touristy but it really depends on what you want.
For living in Paris during a longer amount of time I would personally love to stay in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th arrondissement. I know that a lot of people consider these parts to be way too touristy to live in or “not the real Paris” (yes, I hear this all the time) but there are areas within these places that I just love. If I would settle down in Paris more permanently I might also consider moving to the the 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th or 17th arrondissement.
I’ve come to realise that people living in Paris many times have a personal/sentimental connection to the arrondissement they live in and for many people moving to another arrondissement wouldn’t be their idea of fun. So the answer to this question depends on the person you ask.
If you could live anywhere in Paris, where would it be?
If I could dream and pick anywhere in Paris it would have to be… Either close to Place Saint Sulpice or the Jardin du Luxembourg in the 6th or around Place Maubert in the 5th, perhaps somewhere cosy in the 3rd or 4th, or near La Tour Maubourg or maybe close to Musée Rodin in the 7th. A girl can always dream, right?
Do you have any favourite markets in Paris?
I haven’t been to all that many different markets but I love spending the mornings at Marché Maubert. It’s not too big and not too small. I also had the pleasure to visit the markets near Clignancourt with a guide a while back and that was a super fun experience if you’re interested in vintage clothing, furniture etc. but I wouldn’t go without the guide for my first visit.
Do you ever think about moving outside of Paris?
Right now this wouldn’t be an option for me. As a (paranoid) single woman I prefer to live closer to the city centre so that I feel comfortable getting around, especially during evenings and nighttime. Although I haven’t been to many places outside Paris so I don’t know it too well.
Do you have any tips for people traveling to Paris solo?
Well, that’s basically what I’ve done when I moved here twice so I don’t have a problem with experiencing Paris on my own. I think the city is perfect for people traveling on their own. I recently wrote a little post on dining in Paris solo which you can find here.
What’s the worst part about living in Paris?
That certain procedures are so freaking complicated. Just to start a bank account, transfer money to an international account or things like that are just such a pain in the *ss over here. And I haven’t even (luckily) faced the prefecture and had to deal with getting a visa for example, I can only imagine…
Are Parisians easy to get to know/interact with?
I think it can be quite hard to get to know Parisians unless you have “a foot inside the door”. If you have the opportunity to get to know French people through work, other friends, school or partners I think it will be much easier, but the French people I’ve come to know so far are very kind.
Do you ever see yourself moving from Paris?
Yes. I don’t know if I want to settle down in a city just yet. I’m only 21 and I have so much left to see and explore! Paris will always be close to my heart and perhaps I’ll go away sometime and then return to the city one day but before I decide where I want “settle” I think I have to see more. But right now I’m having a blast exploring and experiencing Paris!
