During a particularly beautiful Sunday a week ago or so I headed to Jardin des Tuileries for an autumn stroll. Since large parts of Paris are completely closed on Sundays you have to find other things than shopping and running errands to occupy yourself with. When I first arrived in Paris last year I just found this to be a major inconvenience — and yes, sometimes it can still be a pain — but now I’ve gotten more and more used to this little Parisian quirk. This forces you to wind down, go for a stroll or meet up with friends and do other things than wander from store to store the whole afternoon. It also forces you (as I’ve learnt the hard way) to do all your grocery shopping and important errands the day before.

When a Sunday is this beautiful it’s hard to resist an autumn walk through the parks of Paris, so that’s exactly what I did. After a stop at Angelina (just across the road from the Tuileries) to pick up a chocolat chaud (thanks for the tip Lauren!) I continued strolling through the park along with old couples, cute little dogs and young lovers.

Thank you sweetie! Still upset about the fact that we’ve only managed to meet up once so far though ;)

Wonderful Sunday leisure! Last, when I was in Paris I found it very inconvenient that (mostly) everything was closed, but you can do and discover other things to see and to do, especially in Paris!!

I did the very same yesterday, perfect peaceful Sunday afternoon activity, watching the little kids with the little boats! Great photography, as always. Emma Louise Layla x

This is officialy my favorite blog at the moment! And you’re right it’s really hard to find something open in Paris on Sundays, while I was there I thought it was a real pain since I didn’t have much to do besides shopping, but I ended up going for a walk with my friends and it was really nice, we got to see a lot of beautiful gardens :)

Ah, thank you so much Joana :)

Gorgeous! I love that parts of Paris are closed on Sundays. I went to college in a very small town, and they did the same thing. Forces you to spend time with friends and family or wind down and relax. :)

What a magical fall day, I remember scouring the city for a grocery store that was open, my go to Franprix was closed!

  • Shani

It can be annoying, but at least it forces you to have beautiful experiences like this! Oh, to have an Angelina hot chocolate right now…

Autumn strolls are my absolute favorite. I actually wish the states would initiate the Sunday rule.

Autumn is such a beautiful season. I love your photos as usual. Oh, everything isn’t closed on sundays in Sweden? I’m just so used to this haha, sundays were the family days when I was younger, and when I got home it’s still the perfect day for brunch and then a walk across town :) I need to buy another coat so I’ll be able to walk on sunday afternoons, it’s freezing right now! xx

No, in Stockholm most things are open on Sundays as well actually :) Ah, that sounds lovely.

  • chocolatecookiesandcandies

Same here. I struggled with the idea that everything shuts on a Sunday and meal times are set so rigidly. It’s all the little idiosyncrasies of the French culture which I also adore.

I guess it’s why Parisians love to people watch, they’re forced to :P Nothing wrong with that!

I remember having hot chocolate when my friend and I were in Paris, the best ever with the chocolate in the cup and warm milk if I remember correctly. I have to recreate that here one day this Winter!

I still do my grocery shopping on Sundays ! Most shops are open in the morning and some of them all day long. And let’s not forget “les marchés” ;) So we can get Angelina chocolate without queuing to get a seat ? That would be perfect !

  • Chiara

    Trop belles couleurs!!! J’adore!
