Jour du Macaron

Yummy Macarons From Hugo & Victor

Colourful Macarons From Carette

Hugo & Victor Macarons

As you probably know by now I have a little weak spot for French macarons (mostly because they’re so darn pretty to photograph)… But hey, who doesn’t? And that’s why I wanted to tell you guys about today. Today is the “Jour du Macaron“ here in Paris. On this day you can visit several pâtisseries around Paris who gives away a free macaron, in the exchange of a small donation that goes to “Autistes sans frontières” (Autistics without borders). Sweet treats for a good cause, it can’t possibly get much better than that!

Yesterday the weather was absolutely amazing in Paris so I had to trade my favourite arm chair inside for one in the Tuileries. It’s impossible to stay inside when the sun is out and it feels like a warm spring day! I spent the whole morning just soaking up as much of the sun as possible while enjoying some Pierre Hermé macarons (caramel and praline noisette). For lunch I met up with Vicky at Le Loir dans la Theiere and then went for a walk around sunny Le Marais. I love strolling around there on a sunny day, the whole area is packed with people wanting to get some of that sun at cosy cafés.

The sun was so warm I was convinced that spring finally had made it to Paris, until I looked at the weather forecast for the coming week… Snow and freezing temperatures are expected in Paris and many other places around Europe. Eeiiik!

Sweets From Comme à Lisbonne Along the Seine by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

Beautiful Notre Dame on a beautiful day by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

The Seine by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

During the afternoon I meet up with Edna and we made a stop at Comme à Lisbonne to pick up a few treats to bring along down to the border of the Seine. The wonderful sun + amazing company + yummy treats + the view of Notre Dame + a couple of guitar players playing the intro melody to the movie Midnight in Paris made this afternoon seem totally surreal.

A few hours along the Seine then turned into a dinner at our favourite Italian place with much laughter and tiramisu, which then turned into a lesson in flirting with French bartenders, haha (let’s just say that I have a looong way to go). It was the perfect Saturday in other words!

Good Day

Ladurée by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

You know when you’re having one of those good days that you never want to end? I (fortunately) had one of those great days today! I had two fun photo shoots (read more about my photo shoots here), and one of them was with the most adorable couple I’ve ever met. The very beautiful Ashley (check out her amazing blog by the way) was in Paris with her (now) fiance Alejandro and they wanted some photos to celebrate their engagement. As I’m a hopeless romantic this made me smile all day. They were even kind enough to give me this pretty little box of delicious macarons at the end of the tour as a thank you which really touched me, merci beaucoup guys!

That together with a new exciting offer and a great lunch really made my day and even though it started to rain on the way home I couldn’t help but keep smiling and hum along to one of my favourite songs. Have a great weekend everybody!

Today’s Sweet

Pastry from Comme à Lisbonne by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

One of my favourite sweets here in Paris is the nata pastry that you can find at the adorable little shop Comme à Lisbonne. They’re so unbelievably yummy and for some reason they remind me of home… I’m guessing it’s the vanilla cream together with that cinnamon that does it. I could easily eat my way through a whole box, these little things are dangerous but oh so delicious!

Last weekend I spent Sunday morning together with Edna at Jacques Genin. We shared a stunning vanilla mille-feuille, delicious caramels and hot chocolate. I’ve been wanting to come here for so long and I’m so happy I finally did, everything was absolutely delicious and I had a lovely time together with Edna. Although our wonderful Sunday didn’t end there! There’s more to come…

And tonight it’s time for the Oscars, yay! Can’t wait to see what everybody will wear and who will win. Exciting!

The other day, while walking by Place des Vosges I couldn’t help but to stop for a little sugary treat at Carette. The raspberry tart is one of my absolute favourite pastries in Paris and I always seem to come back to it! But it’s actually quite fun to try the same kind of pastry from different places because everyone makes it in their own way. This one from Carette was really lovely with a hint of lavender.

My Valentine

The Eiffel Tower by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

I must say that even though Valentine’s Day may be considered as a commercial trick I really enjoy this day. It’s nice to see a little bit of extra love around the city! Beautiful flowers, cheesy boutique décors, pretty heart-shaped pastries and little bit of red and pink everywhere. I use this day to think about my loved ones, but I also see it as an excuse to indulge in my favourite pleasures and spoil myself a little bit more than usual. Why not? And who doesn’t need that every now and then?

I meet up with adorable Grace for a Valentine’s date at my favourite restaurant Les Cocottes. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. If I could I would literally live in this place. Oh yes, that would be my dream! The shredded lettuce hearts with crab and the langoustine ravioli were my choices for the day, together with my favourite white wine. Now I’m getting too hungry just thinking about it. Dammit, I have to go back now…

But of course we couldn’t stop there. Hello?! Dessert was missing of course! Hot chocolate and tons of ice cream at Berthillon was the perfect ending to our day together.

Paris by Carin Olsson (Paris in Four Months)

We had such an amazing day; great food, yummy desserts and so much laughter. I couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s date! Even though this was my first Valentine’s alone in a long long time I really enjoyed myself, with a bunch of my favourite things. And really, could you ask for a better Valentine’s date than Paris?

Sugar Daze

I had a lovely Sunday this weekend in spite of the horrible snow/rain weather thanks to Olivia and Meg! They kindly invited me to come along for a little afternoon sweet fix at Sugar Daze. I’ve never been here before but this place has been on my “to-do list” forever so it was really nice to finally be able visit. As you can see above I went for a chocolate cupcake with caramel filling and it was just… heavenly! So rich and so yummy.
